Hey Y'all!
My name is Talyah (Leah) Simmons. I am a 2nd Year Sociology major from Los Angeles, CA.
I joined BSU to be the change I wanted to see within UCSB. No lie being Black at UCSB is no joke but being apart of an organization that felt closer to home meant a lot. It's helped me ease the feeling of not belonging and loneliness, that stemmed from being around people that didn't look like me nor I could relate to. So if I was able to join a group of people like me an ease the transition for another Black student that goes to UCSB it was worth it.
My BSU vision is to create a safe space for all those in the African Diaspora within UCSB, to be an umbrella and support system for other black organizations within the community. To be the strengthening arm of each black student at UCSB pushing them to strive for success in each and every aspect of their lives not just there time at UCSB. Overall, each one teach one.
